I did.
The Date Farmers, Carlos Ramirez and Armando Lerma, were at Andenken Gallery last night. Opening their show there. I’ve been a distant fan..but I’m officially a full fledged fan now that I’ve seen it up close and personal. I love this work. The materials they use, the topics, the mix of American Indian, Mexican and flat out Cholo..the bright colors and hand drawn signs, rusty metal and layered mediums. Could be my Arizona heritage, but I’m finding I’m naturally drawn to all that is Mexican..this is Mexican with a Native American and American pop culture vibe..love the mix..really nice work. Go support.
Yes..indeed..yet another stop motion music video that has captured my heart. How awesome is this?
Went on a photoshoot today that was at a local screen printer / embroidery company. I’m working on a website for them. Was interesting to see how things are made. Was sort of a small scale version of “Manufactured Landscapes” which is an amazing movie about large scale production factories in China. What boggles my mind..is that this place..with a really slim staff and banks of machines, can produce hundreds, possibly thousands of finished products every day. So if one person on one machine can produce 700 tshirts a day, or hundreds of ball caps or “Welcome to Colorado” sweatshirts…how much product are the factories like the ones in Manufactured Landscapes putting out every day? Every day. Who is buying all this stuff? It’s too much. All of it. I know, that’s an old topic..beaten to death..consumer society, economy, resources, sustainability..a tired point for many. But really. What now? Now that we have out produced our ability to consume..
I met this artist this last weekend, Lauri Lynnxe Murphy. Her work is super awesome. I’m only showing one piece from her sculpture, and none from her resin or collage collections..so go check her work out here to see the rest..very worth it:
This is my friend Mike. He’s a geologist. And a closet artist. That “painting” there is a microscopic view of a slice of that rock that sits on the pedestal in front of it. The colors come from ultraviolet light that is shown through the slice. Pretty crazy stuff. This actually reminds me of my friend Samuels paintings that are inspired by microscopic views of salmon eggs. There are so many levels, so many ways to look at things..on a cellular level, on a molecular level, on a mineral level. I’ve never paid much attention to things I cannot see with my eye, but thanks to these two guys..I am. And its fascinating.
