Football and I are not friends. I find watching football excruciating. However..check this out..branded viral content developed to promote a Fantasy Football league. Seriously outstanding. I watched it twice, then I forwarded it. Well done.

All in one package? Come on. What are they trying to do..kill me? Honestly though..pretty, but the inside looks a bit vacuous.. where is all the stuff you need to live on the road (like I’m going to) for months at a time traveling the coasts of California, Central American and Chile?

I like the concept..not enamored with the execution.

From Carbodydesign.com : Mini in partnership with Airsteam Inc. have created a one-off Mini Cooper S Clubman coupled with a trailer designed by Copenhagen based furniture brand Republic of Fritz Hansen.

Ok. I’m really not sure how this works with Puma’s brand or it’s story. But it’s really f’ing cool. Made by Droga5 out of Australia. So..is this valid advertising? Is it? Probably. I remembered it was for Puma.

Projection is cool.

So..alley walkin’. I like alley walkin’. Why? Is it the broken glass and smelly dumpsters and barking dogs and potentially the shady dumpster divers. No. No, it’s not that. Its the Gems that can be found. Could be a bowling pin lamp, could 3 huge film canisters filled with 35mm movies from the 1970′s, be a curious display of assorted building materials someone has determined they can’t throw away yet, but create a fantastic mosaic of chainlink & old lumber, it could be a great old car or maybe it just my voyeuristic needs to see what the BACK of the house looks like. Whatever the case..I like alley walkin’. I think looking at the underside or backside of our “reality” is fascinating.  Here are two gems from this morning.

The first..an alley cocktail. Mudslide & Redbull Aspirin shooter anyone?

And the second..an unfortunate circumstance. Perhaps too many alley cocktails?

Happy Monday!

Happy Birthday Tika!

13!

Tuesday was the 50 year anniversary of the (failed) Tibetan uprising against the Chinese occupation of Tibet. It was a week later that the Dalai Lama fled. 1959. The Chinese (government) then systematically destroyed as much of the culture, the followers of the Tibetan religion, the monasteries and the religious relics as they could. Having family who is Tibetan, the subject strikes a little closer to my heart than most.

I tried for years to boycott all that is Chinese in support of the Tibetan people. In today’s economy that’s near impossible. But really, after all these years I’ve grown to understand and support the Chinese people and their efforts to join the global economy, with or without their government. (see last posting)

I saw the Dalai Lama in Tucson a few years ago. He was, and continues to be, super inspirational to me. I think its important to remember that it’s all part of the process of living and dying, learning and growing. Deal with what you are dealt with in the most positive manner and you will be closer to that which you should be.

To you Chheten Tamang.

Om Mani Padme Hum ..eh?

March 10, 1959

Ok..this one is a little esoteric. Found it in the NYTimes today. We all know the Chinese government can be a bit..misguided..and tyrannical. Right? And we all know how they have tried from the get go to censor the internet over there. Among other things. Which we won’t get into here. But to the credit of the Chinese people..they have come up with a video & song & product line & social commentary about a mythological Grass Mud Horse which bust right through that heavy hand in a really carefree way . So.. written in Chinese characters, “grass mud horse” is benign. But verbalized is quite lascivious..or crude. Which ever. So..because the Chinese characters are “grass mud horse” they are flying right by the internet censors. Further more..to add insult to the whole thing, the song also talks about the struggle with “river crabs” that when spoken mean “harmony” which is a euphemism for the Chinese cultural cleansing. Brilliant. I love how smart this is. And how the internet is able to transcend the fascism of the Chinese government. Sweet. Oh..and “fuck your mother”. ;)

Two videos..both good. (updated the first video 3/30/09 w/video w/annotations)

Pretty spectacular. Wish I still had it. And the black cinders.

So..way behind on this one..but this band/album has some serious hooks in me at the moment. Love the concept of the album..each song documenting a relationships rise and fall..love the music.  Pretty sure my downstairs neighbor Rusty is sick of hearing this one..thank you Josh.

So this one is compliments of my friend Jennifer..who has her own amazingly inspirational blog. I happen to already be a huge of fan of Mike Rowe and his show Dirty Jobs, but this talk of his at TED takes my admiration for him up a couple notches and this video is really worth the 20 min of viewing time.
